Kuala lumpur: The upcoming ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF) 2025 will see the unveiling of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2026-2030, a strategic blueprint designed to guide the region’s energy policies over the next five years. The event will outline plans for regional energy cooperation, notably highlighting the development of ASEAN Power Grid (APG) initiatives, according to AEBF chairman, Dr. Andy Tirta.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the AEBF 2025 will also feature the signing of an enhanced memorandum of understanding (MoU) focused on the APG. This MoU aims to standardize rules and regulations, align technical requirements, and establish a financial model to facilitate the APG’s development. In support of these initiatives, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has committed US$10 billion to expedite cross-border connections, national grid projects, and renewable energy initiatives, while the World Bank has allocated US$2.5 billion to support ASEAN green energy projects.
Dr. Tirta also noted that the AEBF 2025 will host in-depth discussions on the trans-ASEAN gas pipeline and other ongoing issues related to renewable energy, energy efficiency, and conservation, as well as exploring the potential of nuclear energy. “We will be covering almost all energy transition issues during the event, and we will also talk about nuclear energy,” he added.
To further advance discussions on energy transition, the ASEAN Energy Leaders’ Talk will take place during the event. This session will involve leaders from private institutions and energy-related businesses who will discuss current energy transition issues and provide recommendations from the industry’s perspective for policymakers’ consideration.
Celebrating its 25th edition, the AEBF 2025 is scheduled to occur from October 15-17 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), under the theme ‘Powering ASEAN: Bridging Boundaries, Building Prosperity’.
