Sarawak: Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has called on the people to renew their resolve to safeguard unity and rights, in line with the Malaysia MADANI spirit and the Sarawak Maju Makmur aspiration. He stated that with the support of the people, Sarawak was now on a strong footing to continue progressing as one of the country’s largest economies, having been recognised by the World Bank as a high-income economy since 2022.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abang Johari emphasized that the achievements of Sarawak are not only for the state itself but also serve to elevate Malaysia on the global stage. ‘With the Malaysia MADANI spirit and the Sarawak Maju Makmur aspiration, let us move forward as one nation, the Malaysian nation, towards a brighter future,’ he said. The event was attended by notable figures, including Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, as well as state cabinet ministers and deputy ministers.
Speaking at the Malaysia Day 2025 State-level Celebration Gathering, Abang Johari noted this year’s theme, ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur Dalam Malaysia’, which reflects both the state’s achievements and its direction towards 2030. He expressed confidence that by 2030, Sarawak would remain a key contributor to the national economy through high-value industries, including renewable energy development such as hydro, hydrogen, and solar.
He highlighted Sarawak’s role as the ‘Battery of ASEAN’, supplying energy not only for the local population but also to Kalimantan, Singapore, Brunei, and other countries in the region. Additionally, he pointed out Sarawak’s strategic position as a gateway to the Borneo region, especially as Malaysia prepares to assume the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.
