New delhi: Men's doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik secured a spot in the second round of the India Open 2026 after their compatriots Kang Khai Xing-Aaron Tai retired midway through their first-round match after 21 minutes.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the match took place at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi, where Aaron-Wooi Yik advanced without completing the full match. They were leading 21-12, 11-6 when Kang Khai Xing-Aaron Tai had to retire due to Aaron Tai experiencing a backache.
Aaron-Wooi Yik are set to face Japan's Takumi Nomura-Yuichi Shimogami next, who narrowly defeated fellow Malaysians Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King with scores of 26-28, 21-18, 22-20.
In other matches, Malaysian men's doubles pair Chia Weijie-Lwi Sheng Hao exited the tournament after losing 18-21, 15-21 to Japan's Hiroki Midorikawa-Kyohei Yamashita. Another Malaysian pair, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin, advanced by overcoming Choi Sol Gyu-Goh V Shem 19-21, 21-16, 21-10. Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin will face either England's Ben Lane-Sean Vendy or Taiwan's Lee Jhe-Huei-Yang Po-Hsuan in the next round.
Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah maintained Malaysia's strong performance in the women's doubles category with a straight-sets victory over India's Kavipriya Selvam-Simran Singhi, winning 21-18, 21-6. They will next compete against France's Margot Lambert-Camille Pognante. However, Malaysian pair Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting were eliminated after a 17-21, 15-21 defeat to Taiwan's Hsieh Pei Shan-Hung En-Tzu.
