Kuala lumpur: (M) Sdn Bhd (AAK) today received recognition from the Malaysian Book of Records (MBOR) for the 'Largest Belt Press System Dewatering Plant' for its Sungai Dua Dewatering Plant, developed in collaboration with the Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, AAK director Gokulaan Balan stated that the plant boasts a treatment capacity of 10 million litres per day (MLD) and is capable of managing up to 450 tonnes of water treatment sludge daily. He emphasized that the recognition marked a crucial milestone for the company, showcasing Malaysian engineering expertise in delivering world-class environmental infrastructure.
"Receiving this MBOR recognition is not the destination of our journey but it is the beginning of a greater responsibility. It inspires us to continue innovating, pursue engineering excellence, and strengthen our commitment towards environmental sustainability for the benefit of our nation," Gokulaan expressed during the presentation ceremony.
MBOR chief executive officer Christopher Wong presented the recognition to AAK chief executive officer Datuk Balan Agambram, with Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) chairman Datuk Seri Jaseni Maidinsa witnessing the event.
Gokulaan further noted that the Sungai Dua Dewatering Plant is part of the company's initiative to drive innovation in environmental engineering and sustainable waste management. This supports Malaysia's goals in sustainable water management, scheduled waste recovery, and circular economy development through practical and environmentally responsible engineering solutions.
In addition, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow highlighted the project's role in transforming water treatment residuals, traditionally disposed of in landfills, into Eco Green Cement Bricks, thereby creating value through the circular economy. The facility processes up to 10 million litres of water treatment residuals and approximately 450 metric tonnes of alum sludge daily, recovering treated water for reuse in the treatment process, reducing water losses, and enhancing Penang's water security.
"Projects like this show that sustainability is not just good for the environment. It also creates economic value, supports innovation, and improves the quality of life for our people," Chow remarked.
Established in 2004, AAK specializes in environmental engineering and scheduled waste management solutions. The Sungai Dua Dewatering Plant and its Eco Green Brick Manufacturing Plant are part of the company's circular economy initiative to convert treated SW204 scheduled waste into environmentally friendly construction materials.
