Miri: A three-member investigation team from the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is expected to arrive in Miri at about 5 pm today to begin investigations into yesterday's crash involving a Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter in Long Lellang.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, AAIB stated that the crash site is currently under tight security, and it is imperative that the helicopter wreckage not be disturbed or moved without proper coordination with the agency. The statement emphasized that the journey from Miri to the crash site in Long Lellang will be organized based on current conditions and available transportation options.

The AAIB also mentioned that access to the crash site is not exclusive to them, as other rescue agencies must perform their duties there. The bureau highlighted that the immediate focus is on the rescue and recovery operations being conducted by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), and other involved authorities.

It is understood that the search and rescue (SAR) team proceeded to the crash site at 11 am today. The incident, which took place near the Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing Airport (STOLport) in Ulu Baram, involved a BO-105 helicopter carrying five people, including the pilot.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) stated that it received information about the crash from the Flight Information Service at 3.58 pm yesterday, confirming that the helicopter was engaged in an FDS operation.
