The National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) today launched a drug prevention programme in Pulau Banggi with a focus on grassroots outreach to empower local communities.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, AADK director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh stated that the programme was conducted through the Anti-Drug Squad on Two Wheels Roadshow campaign, as part of the Drug-Free Aspirations Tour Programme (JABD) 2026. The aim is to strengthen the protective synergy with village community institutions. Datuk Ruslin emphasized the importance of engaging directly with communities, families, and village societies, moving away from top-level campaigns to more grassroots-level initiatives.
He highlighted that this paradigm shift ensures that the country's drug prevention agenda grows organically and raises public awareness about the dangers of drug threats. By conducting these grassroots outreach programmes frequently, local residents are indirectly encouraged to adopt healthier activities and lifestyles.
The JABD programme is designed for comprehensive nationwide implementation, not confined to a single state. The initiative aims to have a broad impact across the nation. The programme was earlier officiated by Banggi assemblyman Datuk Mohammad Mohamarin and attended by Sabah AADK director Elmariah Chung.
