87 Umrah Operators Face Investigation Over Alleged Cartel Activities

Kuala lumpur: Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh announced that a total of 87 umrah operators are currently under investigation for alleged involvement in an umrah cartel.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the investigation by the Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) was initiated due to suspicions of price-fixing among several companies offering umrah travel services. Dr Fuziah highlighted the detrimental effects of fixed pricing on consumers, who are unable to secure the best deals as a result. She emphasized the vital role MyCC plays in addressing cartel activities to protect consumer interests.

Dr Fuziah made these remarks during a press conference after officiating the MADANI Rahmah Mega Aidilfitri Sales Programme 2026 at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque compound in Sungai Isap Perdana. She also noted that 133 such sales programmes have been conducted across Pahang during Ramadan this year, with an additional 45 programmes planned until March 30. These initiatives aim to offer essential goods at more affordable prices during Aidilfitri.
