Kuala lumpur: Authorities have, to date, identified 754 individuals nationwide, including foreigners, for littering offences under the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act 2007 (Act 672), Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said. He stated that out of these, 478 individuals would face court charges following the enforcement of community service orders, which began on January 1.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nga revealed that 15 offenders sentenced by the court started their community service orders yesterday. These individuals have been mandated to complete activities such as sweeping streets, cleaning drains, and maintaining public toilets for a duration of four hours, to be fulfilled within a six-month period. Nga emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness, highlighting it as both a duty and a part of faith, essential for ensuring that Malaysia remains clean, free from infectious diseases, and that its citizens live prosperously.
The announcement was made during Nga's speech at the Tambun parliamentary-level Sumbangan Kasih MADANI programme. This event, held at Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK) Yuk Choy, coincided with the Chinese New Year and Ramadan celebrations and was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Nga also mentioned that all offenders convicted of littering would begin their community service simultaneously from February 13, with duties specific to their court convictions encompassing tasks such as cleaning drains, sweeping streets, and washing public toilets.
