59 Police Reports Filed Against Former MP Tony Pua Over Facebook Post

Selangor: Police have received 59 reports nationwide against former Damansara MP Tony Pua following a post on his Facebook account that allegedly touched on sensitive issues involving the Constitutional Monarchy and Rukun Negara. Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar stated that the case will be investigated and that Pua will be summoned to provide his statement soon.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, as of this morning, 59 police reports have been lodged nationwide, with the investigation being conducted by the Selangor Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar shared these details with reporters at a press conference held at the Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters Senior Officers' Mess.

The investigation began yesterday after police opened an investigation paper against Pua for his Facebook post, which allegedly addressed sensitive issues related to the Constitutional Monarchy and Rukun Negara. Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk M. Kumar indicated that the investigation is being conducted under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for statements conducive to public mischief and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The DAP Disciplinary Committee chairman reportedly issued a statement highlighting Malaysia's practice of a Constitutional Monarchy system wherein the King's power is generally limited to specific areas. This statement is believed to have been made in response to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor's advice to Seri Kembangan state assemblyman Wong Siew Ki and former Selangor executive councillor Ronnie Liu, encouraging them to visit Dataran Selangor once a week to understand and appreciate the true meaning of the Rukun Negara.
