Kuala lumpur: Five hundred advocacy notices were issued on the first day of the Advocacy Campaign for Operation Compliance with the Law (OP PUU) by Kuala Lumpur police, which began yesterday along the federal capital’s main roads.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus stated that the campaign aims to educate road users on the importance of obeying traffic laws, especially in the city centre, in line with its status as a modern metropolis. On the first day, 500 advocacy notices were issued to users for minor offences, without imposing any fines. Additionally, 24 notices were issued by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), 126 by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), while four vehicles were towed and 24 vehicles inspected.

Fadil explained that OP PUU is being conducted in an integrated manner with the cooperation of DBKL, JPJ, other government agencies, and non-governmental organisations. He noted that many road users are still careless and do not comply with traffic rules. This campaign is advocacy-based at first, but summonses will be issued once this advocacy period ends.

The campaign is set to continue until a date to be determined later, Fadil added.
