5.6-Magnitude Quake Hit Western Indonesia

JAKARTA, Sept 8 (NNN-ANTARA) – An earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.6, jolted Indonesia’s western province of Bengkulu early this morning, the meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.

The quake rocked at 1:09 a.m. Thursday, Jakarta Time (1809 GMT Wednesday), with the epicentre at 89 km south-east of Mukomuko district, and the shallow at 10 km under the seabed, the agency said.

The earthquake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami, it said.
