Lahad Datu:A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck the waters off Sandakan at 9:11 pm, causing brief but noticeable tremors that were felt by residents in Lahad Datu and Tawau.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian Meteorological Department reported that the earthquake's epicenter was located approximately 48 kilometers east of Lahad Datu, at coordinates 4.9 degrees North and 118.7 degrees East, with a depth of 10 kilometers.
Nurse Nur Damia Hanafi, 34, experienced the shaking while stopped at a red light on her way home. Initially suspecting someone was shaking her car, she later realized it was an earthquake after the tremor subsided.
Public servant Norusidah Ruslan, 45, was working on diamond embroidery at home when she noticed the embroidered clothes swaying. This was her first encounter with an earthquake, prompting her to call her husband to ensure his safety.
Housewife Nur Medina Abdullah, 40, was in her kitchen when she felt the tremor, initially attributing it to dizziness or a supernatural presence before realizing it was indeed an earthquake.
In Tawau, e-hailing driver Muhd Andri Sapar, 35, felt the tremor while having a drink with a friend in a hotel, describing the experience as strong yet brief. Similarly, housewife Siti Amilah Terence, 35, felt unsteady and dizzy during the tremor while leaving a mobile phone shop with her husband.
