46,542 Commuting Accidents Reported in 2025: PERKESO

Kuala lumpur: A total of 46,542 or 50.9 per cent of the 91,456 accident cases recorded in 2025 involved commuting accidents to and from work, according to the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO). PERKESO chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed highlighted the statistics as an alarming trend, particularly among motorcyclists, with most fatalities involving family breadwinners.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohammed Azman emphasized that this situation calls for proactive measures beyond the disbursement of PERKESO benefits. He made these remarks during the launch of the Malaysian Riders Campaign (MyRider). The initiative aims to curb road accidents, especially those involving motorcyclists, through a collaborative effort with the Royal Malaysia Police's Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT).

The MyRider campaign also involves various agencies and industry partners, including the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ). This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to improving motorcycle rider safety in Malaysia. Mohammed Azman conveyed a message promoting responsible and safety-conscious riding under the campaign's slogan, 'Malaysian Riders: Safe. Prudent. Dignified.'

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman JSPT deputy director DCP Mohd Rozi Jidin expressed full support from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for the MyRider campaign. He noted that the cooperation between PERKESO, PDRM, government agencies, and strategic industry partners could serve as a catalyst for more effective efforts to enhance motorcycle rider safety across the nation.
