400 People Stranded at Wang Kelian Due to Landslide

Padang besar: Around 400 individuals found themselves stranded at Wang Kelian near Padang Besar when a landslide struck Jalan Wang Kelian around 1 pm today, following continuous rainfall since early this morning.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Padang Besar District Police chief ACP Mohd Shokri Abdullah reported that the group included 300 Malaysians returning from Thailand via the Wang Kelian Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex. The remaining stranded individuals were local residents affected by flooding.

Mohd Shokri stated that those stranded are currently being accommodated at Masjid Nurul Husna in Wang Kelian. He confirmed their safety, noting that the mosque is situated on higher ground. He further explained that police and other agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department, the Civil Defence Force, and the Public Works Department, are closely monitoring the situation.

He mentioned that as of tonight, the road remains closed due to the risk of additional landslides.
