JAKARTA – An estimated 34.6 million Indonesians, or 13 percent of the counrty’s population, are expected to travel during the upcoming long year-end holidays, according to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation.
“The survey was conducted from Oct 11 to 20. According to the survey result, as many as 30.2 percent of people who have planned to travel, want to go back to their hometowns,” the ministry’s spokesperson, Adita Irawati, said yesterday.
Meanwhile, 24.2 percent of those travelling would make trips for vacations, 17.6 percent would travel because of being bored of routine activities amidst the pandemic, 15.5 percent for businesses, 9.6 percent for Christmas celebrations, and 2.9 percent wishing to continue to the year-end holiday traditions, out of their cities.
A total of 91.09 percent of respondents who want to travel have received the vaccinations.
The survey also concluded that 87 percent or 231.6 million people did not plan to travel anywhere during the long holidays.
The Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI) group added that, Indonesians are more confident to travel as the transmission of COVID-19 decreases, tourism sites are reopened and the coverage of COVID-19 vaccinations is expanded.
“They are more confident because they have received the COVID-19 vaccinations,” Head of the MTI’s Advocacy and Community Division, Djoko Setijowarno, said.
