25th ASEAN Energy Business Forum Begins in Kuala Lumpur to Boost Regional Energy Collaboration

Kuala lumpur: The 25th ASEAN Energy Business Forum 2025 (AEBF) is set to commence tomorrow at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, aiming to strengthen regional collaboration and mobilize partnerships to accelerate ASEAN’s energy transformation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the event is hosted by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) and organized by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE). The three-day forum, themed ‘Powering ASEAN: Bridging Boundaries, Building Prosperity’, is expected to attract 1,500 delegates, including stakeholders and key players from the ASEAN energy industry and international dialogue partners.

The AEBF 2025 will run concurrently with the 43rd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and its related meetings, which are scheduled for October 16 to 17, 2025. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will inaugurate the forum, anticipated to be a landmark energy dialogue in ASEAN’s history, setting the stage for future collaborations and transformative energy strategies.

PETRA reports that the 43rd AMEM will focus on several strategic issues, notably the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2026-2030. This plan will serve as the region’s strategic energy roadmap for the next five years. Other key agendas include regional memoranda of understanding such as the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) and the ASEAN Petroleum Security Agreement, which aim to enhance energy interconnectivity, promote a low-carbon transition, and improve regional energy security.

The forum will also host the ASEAN Energy Leaders’ Talk, featuring leaders from private institutions and energy-related businesses. The global significance of AEBF will be highlighted by the participation of internationally renowned leaders, including the Asian Development Bank (ADB) director general Hideaki Iwasaki, who will discuss the financing architecture for ASEAN’s transformation.

Prominent figures in the global energy sector, such as Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, also serving as PETRA Minister, and the Philippine Energy Secretary Sharon Garin, will present Southeast Asia’s shared energy vision. Complementing these policymakers are key industry figures responsible for implementing the region’s energy vision, including UEM Lestra Bhd chairman and UEM Group Bhd managing director Datuk Amran Hafiz Affifudin, Tenaga Nasional Bhd president and CEO Datuk Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hasan, Gamuda Engineering managing director Justin Chin, and Gamuda Australia chief strategy and growth officer Jarred Hardman.

Supported by the AMEM, the forum stands as the premier energy event in Southeast Asia, acting as a catalyst for policy innovation, business deals, and cross-border partnerships for the past 25 years.
