2026 DAP National Conference Rescheduled to August 16

Kuala lumpur: The 2026 DAP National Conference, initially set for July 12, has been rescheduled to August 16, according to party secretary-general Anthony Loke.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the shift in the conference date was decided by the party's Central Executive Committee (CEC) during a meeting. This decision aligns with the dissolution of the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state legislative assemblies, which paves the way for upcoming state elections in both regions.

Anthony Loke stated that the Democratic Action Party (DAP) plans to defend its incumbent seats in both Johor and Negeri Sembilan. The party also intends to contest additional seats in Johor, contingent on the final outcomes of negotiations with Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties, expected by the end of the week.

Loke further explained that the Candidate Selection Committee will determine the candidates representing DAP in the state elections. This committee includes prominent party figures such as DAP national chairman Gobind Singh Deo, deputy national chairman Nga Kor Ming, Wanita chief Teo Nie Ching, and DAP parliamentary leader Chong Chieng Jen.

In addition, Loke, who serves as the Seremban MP and former Chennah assemblyman, emphasized DAP's commitment to campaigning actively in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections to help secure victories for Pakatan Harapan in both states.

The developments follow Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi's announcement regarding the dissolution of the 56-seat Johor assembly, effective from June 1, with the consent of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail. Similarly, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun declared the dissolution of the 36-seat state assembly, following consent from the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
