Kuala Lumpur: The national sepak takraw squad created history when they won the 2025 Sepak Takraw Asian Cup quadrant event by beating Japan 2-0 in the final at Titwangsa Stadium here tonight.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the victory was witnessed by over 1,000 enthusiastic fans. The Malaysian team, consisting of Muhammad Afifuddin Mohd Razali, Amirul Zazwan Amir, Norfaizzul Abd Razak, and Muhammad Shahalril Aiman Halim, showcased their skill by dominating the first set with a score of 15-8. Despite the efforts of the Japanese quadrant, which included players Wataru Narawa, Toshitaka Naito, Yuki Sato, and Ryota Haruhara, the Malaysians secured their triumph with a 15-11 win in the second set.
Quadrant coach Mohammad Zulkarnain Abdul Rahman expressed that the squad’s performance was well deserved, following their commendable showing at the World Cup in Bihar, India, in March.
