Sabah: A total of 2,000 personnel from the Civil Defence Force (APM) in Sabah and Sarawak are engaged in rescue operations and providing assistance to residents affected by floods. APM chief commissioner Datuk Aminurrahim Mohamed stated that the flood situation in these regions remains under control with the current personnel stationed there.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Aminurrahim Mohamed noted that there is no immediate need to deploy additional personnel as the existing workforce is deemed adequate. However, he mentioned that further decisions will be considered if necessary. This statement was made during a press conference following the launch of the Civil Defence Month and the National Discourse on the Structure and Direction of Volunteerism in Malaysia.
The event was inaugurated by Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad at the Institut Semarak Felda. Aminurrahim highlighted that 15,300 active APM members have been identified through their contributions to the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).
He explained that the allowance for personnel of other ranks is RM8 per hour, whereas officers receive RM9.80 per hour. Additionally, working hours vary with office-based roles requiring nine hours, operational roles eight hours, and disaster response roles demanding 16 hours.
