200 MAF Veterans to Join Malaysian Border Control in Early 2026

Kuala lumpur: About 200 veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) are expected to join the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) starting in the first quarter of 2026, as announced by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. He noted that the Public Service Department (JPA) has approved several positions for MAF veterans, and the recruitment process will commence soon.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saifuddin Nasution emphasized that the integration of MAF veterans into AKPS will differ significantly from recruiting new personnel or transferring staff from other departments such as the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (MAQIS), or the Immigration Department. The veterans possess specific skills that are expected to enhance the agency's operations, and the exercise aims to be completed within the first quarter.

Saifuddin further elaborated that the recruitment will include former personnel from the Army, Royal Malaysian Navy, and Royal Malaysian Air Force. He highlighted the value of these veterans as a "unique asset" that will strengthen AKPS's human resources. The initiative targets veterans who are at least 38 years old, ensuring they remain fit and capable for the roles.

Previously, AKPS director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain mentioned that the agency plans to recruit 220 MAF veterans gradually. This initiative, announced under Budget 2026, will be executed through a contract-based appointment method following the allocation of necessary funds. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during the Budget 2026 presentation, stated that prioritizing MAF veterans for AKPS roles is crucial for achieving full operational readiness.
