2.14 Billion E-Invoices Filed as of November 2, Announces Prime Minister Anwar

Kuala Lumpur:As of November 2, approximately 269,900 taxpayers have submitted a total of 2.14 billion e-invoices, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, emphasized that the implementation of e-invoices is not aimed at introducing new taxes or increasing the public's tax burden. Instead, e-invoices serve as a crucial tool for ensuring fairness, detecting non-compliance, and ensuring that all parties meet their respective tax obligations.

Anwar highlighted the importance of leveraging the latest technology, data analytics, and automation to enhance tax administration. However, he cautioned that decisions should not be solely dependent on technology without human oversight, especially when it comes to issues concerning people's rights and interests. He noted that while artificial intelligence possesses intelligence, it lacks moral values and humanity, which are essential for exercising judgment and conscience.

The Prime Minister's remarks were delivered by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan during the 2026 Innovation and Integrity Day celebration, organized by the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN). The event was attended by LHDN CEO Datuk Dr. Abu Tariq Jamaluddin and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Anwar stressed the need for tax fairness and equitable enforcement of laws. He urged LHDN officers to be firm against deliberate tax evasion, while also showing discretion and offering assistance to taxpayers in need, all within the framework of the law.

Looking ahead, Anwar warned that 2027 is expected to pose challenges due to global economic uncertainties. He cited ongoing conflicts in West Asia, supply disruptions, energy price pressures, and potential extreme weather conditions from the El Niño phenomenon as factors that could impact the cost of living and the well-being of the population.

To address these challenges, the fifth MADANI Budget 2027 is set to mobilize RM510 billion in resources, including RM459.8 billion in federal government expenditure, to sustain development, bolster economic resilience, and protect citizens' welfare. Anwar underscored the importance of fair and effective revenue collection in achieving these goals.

He also acknowledged the contributions of LHDN personnel in strengthening the nation's revenue position, urging them to continue mastering technology, improving efficiency, and upholding integrity in their duties. He reminded them to carry out their responsibilities with compassion, wisdom, and a deep appreciation of human values, in addition to integrity.
