Kuala lumpur: A total of 18 cases of illegal disposal and dumping of solid waste with fines totaling RM305,000 have been prosecuted in Johor as of September this year, said state Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon. He noted that the figure reflects the determination of the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) in strengthening enforcement to combat such acts.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Johor government, through SWCorp, will continue to take firm and uncompromising action against any party involved in this irresponsible activity. Ling emphasized that indiscriminate dumping is not only illegal but also pollutes the environment and affects the well-being of the local community. He revealed that for the period from 2018 to 2024, a total of 89 cases have been brought to court with a cumulative fine of RM1.54 million.

Citing the latest developments, Ling mentioned that the Kota Tinggi Sessions Court on September 3 had sentenced three individuals for illegally dumping solid waste at several locations in the district. The three individuals were separately charged under Section 71(1) of the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act 2007 [Act 672] and each was fined RM10,000, bringing the total fines paid to RM30,000.

Ling urged the public to always be responsible in waste management, use legal disposal channels, and comply with the law. He reiterated the Johor government’s commitment to ensuring that the cleanliness and sustainability of the environment is always maintained for the well-being of the people of Johor.
