Kampung bok bak: The second phase of the housing construction project in Kampung Bok Bak, here, to accommodate 17 debris flood victims from Kampung Iboi, is hoped to provide comfort and ensure the safety of the affected residents. Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the replacement home project was given to the residents whose homes were previously affected by the tragedy that occurred on July 4, 2022.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Federal Government approved an allocation of RM3 million for the construction of 17 new residential units, complete with infrastructure facilities, while the land acquisition process was carried out by the State Government at a cost of RM500,000. Saifuddin Nasution expressed satisfaction with the quality of the construction and hoped that the new homes would provide comfort and safety to the recipients. He mentioned this during the Key Handover Ceremony for Flood Victims' Homes in Kampung Bok Bak.
Saifuddin Nasution, who also serves as the Co-Chairman of the Kedah State Development Action Council, stated that the project started on March 24 last year and was completed on July 25 this year. Although there were two requests for an extension of time, the project was successfully completed and is ready for occupancy, particularly in anticipation of the upcoming Ramadan.
He credited the smooth implementation of the project to the good cooperation between the State Government, the Federal Government, and all parties involved. In other developments, the construction project for the Sabo Dam, aimed at reducing the risk of debris flow floods in the area, has been fully completed. The Federal Government had allocated RM22.8 million for the dam following the worst flood that hit Baling.
On July 4, 2022, the debris flood tragedy in Kampung Iboi claimed the lives of three family members, displaced 12 families, and affected 17 other residences. The first phase of the housing construction project, which accommodated 12 affected families, was completed earlier, with all involved moving into their new homes in Kampung Sadek in June last year.
