13th Malaysia Plan Prioritizes Human and Social Development Over Material Gains

Kuala lumpur: The 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) introduces a comprehensive approach to development, emphasizing human values and social well-being alongside material progress.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr. Khairil Izamin Ahmad, the director of the All-Party Parliamentary Group of Malaysia on Sustainable Development Goals (APPGM-SDG), highlighted that the 13MP document offers a broader and more inclusive definition of development. This new approach moves beyond traditional metrics and statistics, focusing on intangible elements that contribute to community well-being.

Dr. Ahmad noted that the 13MP’s commitment to criminal justice reform includes a reevaluation of the country’s approach to drug abuse, among other social issues. He emphasized that the plan balances the advancement of high-tech sectors such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and data technology with the economic realities faced by the general population.

He further explained that national development should not be confined to high-tech sectors alone. It must also address the everyday needs and challenges faced by people at the grassroots level. This balanced approach ensures resilience within the community across both sophisticated and common economic activities.

The 13MP, tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Dewan Rakyat on July 31, outlines Malaysia’s national development agenda for 2026-2030, with a total allocation of RM611 billion.
