Kuala lumpur: The use of modern technologies, such as the Industrialised Building System (IBS) and Building Information Modelling (BIM), will be a key focus in projects under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). This emphasis aims to enhance efficiency, transparency, and the quality of construction work across the nation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister of Finance II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan highlighted that this approach is expected to speed up project completion, reduce the wastage of building materials, and lower overall construction costs. The 13MP also aims to deliver one million affordable housing units over a decade, with both government and private developers working to provide public housing at more reasonable prices. Additionally, there will be an expansion of transit-oriented development (TOD) to better integrate housing with public transportation systems.
Amir Hamzah noted that these initiatives present significant opportunities for Bumiputera contractors to contribute to sustainable and inclusive national development. He shared these insights at a dinner ceremony held in conjunction with the 6th annual general meeting of the Malaysian Bumiputera Contractors Association (PKBM).
During the event, the minister also inaugurated the PKBM BIM Satellite Centre, a strategic collaboration between PKBM and CIDB E-Construct Services Sdn Bhd. This centre is set to operate as a training hub, equipping contractors with the skills needed to utilize BIM technology, which has become essential for projects valued at RM10 million and above.
The minister emphasized that through the PKBM BIM Satellite Centre, contractors would receive comprehensive training to apply BIM throughout all construction phases, from planning and design to maintenance. This initiative is intended to not only enhance project efficiency and transparency but also to minimize waste and increase overall productivity, contributing to the digital transformation of Malaysia’s construction industry in alignment with the MADANI Government’s aspirations.
