Kuala lumpur: A total of 1,225 members of the Child Protection Team (PPKK) have been appointed for the 2024-2026 term to bolster child protection efforts nationwide, announced Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri. She noted that 141 of these members were appointed by the National Council for Children (MKBKK) as per Section 7(1) of the Child Act 2001 (Act 611).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nancy highlighted the critical role played by the Child Protection Team in coordinating services for children and families. The PPKK acts as a bridge between the community and relevant agencies to ensure that every child grows up in a safe and nurturing environment. Nancy addressed these points during her speech at the 2026 National PPKK Symposium's opening ceremony.

Nancy disclosed that last year, a total of 10,904 children required care and protection, with 2,746 cases reported from January to March this year. These statistics underscore the urgent need for a strengthened child protection system. She emphasized that this system should involve all parties, including the community, and be implemented in an integrated and continuous manner.

To enhance the effectiveness of PPKK and Child Activity Centres (PAKK), Nancy's ministry, through the Social Welfare Department (JKM), allocated RM705,000 this year for PPKK programs and activities. Additionally, RM3.5 million was allocated for the management and operation of PAKKs nationwide. This includes RM365,000 designated for 14 PPKKs in Sarawak and RM435,340 for the operation of 14 existing PAKKs and one new state PAKK.
