Kuala lumpur: Police have detained 11 local individuals to assist in investigations into a group attack that left a victim seriously injured in Taman Pengkalan Jaya here on Tuesday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin detailed the incident, stating that the 26-year-old victim was approached by five men traveling in two cars at about 10.30 am. The men chased and assaulted the victim, who, in an attempt to escape, jumped into Sungai Kinta. However, one of the suspects slashed him with a machete, causing injuries to his face, hands, legs, and back.

Members of the public later intervened, aiding the victim and taking him to the hospital for treatment. Mohd Alwi indicated that the attack was believed to be motivated by revenge and dissatisfaction by an organized crime group against the victim.

The individuals arrested are aged between 22 and 41, and all have previous criminal records involving drug offenses and violent crimes. They have been remanded to assist in investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code.

Mohd Alwi also called for public cooperation, urging anyone with information on illegal activities involving organized crime groups to report it through the police operations room's official channels or at the nearest police station.
