11 Bersatu Division Heads in Johor Resign Amid Leadership Crisis

Johor bahru: A total of 11 division heads of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in Johor have announced their resignations, citing a prolonged leadership crisis that they claim was not handled prudently by the party's top leadership. The divisions involved are Pontian, Simpang Renggam, Sembrong, Mersing, Johor Bahru, Pengerang, Labis, Tanjung Piai, Seri Gading, Ledang, and Pulai. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Pontian division head Datuk Isa Ab Hamid, speaking on behalf of the group, stated that the resignations would effectively lead to the dissolution of the affected divisions. He expressed concerns about the ongoing leadership crisis, including the dismissal of senior leaders and Members of Parliament, which has left the party's direction increasingly unclear and eroded the trust of members and voters. Isa mentioned that the Mersing and Labis division heads had submitted their official resignation letters to Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, with the remaining divisions exp ected to follow suit soon. He criticized Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Johor Bersatu Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Dr. Sahruddin Jamal for their failure to unite divisional and grassroots leaders, which has undermined their confidence to continue serving, particularly with the Johor state election on the horizon. Former Johor Bahru division chief Datuk Zulkifli Bujang indicated that the group would act collectively and any future decisions, including possible offers from other parties, would be made by consensus. Previously, Bersatu dismissed 17 members, including several Supreme Council members, four Members of Parliament, and two state assemblymen, for allegedly violating Clause 9.1.4 of the party's constitution. They have 14 days to appeal the decision. In Terengganu, former Bersatu Dungun division chief Datuk Aziz Ismail claimed that the division was also dissolved following the departure of 1,880 members from 13 branches due to a loss of confidence and support for the leadership of Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Meanwhile, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, in a statement, denied the dissolution of the Bersatu divisions in Larut, Lembah Pantai, Kepala Batas, and Tanjong following the resignation of several division committee members. He asserted that the claim was baseless and contradicted provisions in the party constitution and Bersatu Conference Regulations. Azmin emphasized that the party constitution does not empower any party member, including a division chief, to dissolve a division, describing the actions as a desperate attempt by certain individuals to damage the party's image and stability.
