Kampar: A 10-year-old boy tragically lost his life, and three others sustained injuries in a crash involving three vehicles on the Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur road near Kampar. The incident occurred at Kilometre 29.4 last night.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kampar district police chief Supt Mohamad Nazri Daud identified the deceased as Jayden Leong Zhi Yung from Taman Perpaduan Koperasi. The police received reports about the incident from the public around 10.35 pm.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a Toyota Hilux, driven by a 44-year-old man from Ipoh, reportedly lost control near the crash site. The vehicle veered into the opposite lane, colliding with a Perodua Bezza and a Perodua Myvi. A subsequent urine screening test showed the Toyota Hilux driver tested positive for cannabis, resulting in his detention for further investigation under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death.
Mohamad Nazri stated that the young victim, who was seated in the front passenger seat of the Perodua Bezza, was pronounced dead at the scene. He suffered severe head and leg injuries. Jayden's sister, Jeno Leong Zhi Yung, aged 13, and their father, Leong Hon Kin, aged 46, both sustained head and leg injuries and were transported to Kampar Hospital for medical treatment.
The drivers of the Perodua Myvi, aged 23, and the Toyota Hilux did not suffer any physical injuries in the accident.
