Kuala lumpur: A total of 10 information and communications technology (ICT) projects under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have been shortlisted for the prestigious World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes 2026.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MCMC announced that these projects are among 360 ICT initiatives selected from 194 member countries of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to compete across 18 categories. The diverse range of projects reflects the innovative strides MCMC is making in various aspects of ICT development and governance.
The shortlisted projects include the ASEAN 5G Skills Framework and Capacity Development Platform, Communications and Infrastructure Disaster Recovery (CIDR) Plan, and Human-Centred Digital Governance Through MCMC's Five-Year Plan 2030. These projects are categorized under various aspects of ICT development such as promoting ICTs for development, building confidence and security in ICT use, and enabling environments.
Additionally, projects like AgriNXT: Oil Palm Chapter and MCMC's AGRINXT Northern Chapter initiatives focus on ICT applications in agriculture and science, empowering Malaysian farmers with AI-based tools. Other notable projects are the Sebenarnya.my portal, Internet Safety Campaign (KIS), and the E-waste Stewardship initiative, which focus on media, ethical dimensions, and environmental stewardship.
MCMC is urging Malaysians to support these projects by voting online, with the voting period open until May 13. Interested individuals can cast their votes by registering an account through the provided link. Furthermore, to encourage public involvement, MCMC has set up a booth at the Communications Ministry Complex, operational from April 17 to May 13.
