UNIKL, IRSE JOIN FORCES TO OFFER COURSES IN RAILWAY SIGNALLING CONTROL SYSTEMS

Universiti Kuala Lumpur Asia Rail Centre (UniKL ARC) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Kingdom’s Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE) to offer globally recognised advanced diploma and certificate of competency courses.

Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said through the MoU, the IRSE had accredited UniKL ARC to offer courses in railway signalling control systems and telecommunications.

Asyraf Wajdi who is also UniKL’s pro-chancellor said the IRSE appointed the university to act as an assessing agency for its accreditations of signal engineers and professionals.

“The collaboration was initiated during MARA’s visit to IRSE headquarters in June 2022. With the certification from the IRSE, the graduates we produce can work and be recognised not only in Malaysia but also abroad.

“We are the only university in the Southeast Asian region to receive such recognition,” he said in a press conference after witnessing the MoU signing at the UNIKL ARC campus, here today.

Witnessed by Asyraf Wajdi and British High Commissioner to Malaysia Charles Hay, the MoU was signed by UniKL president and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Roziah Omar and IRSE president Andy Knight.

Commenting on the partnership, Hay said it was vital to boost collaboration between both countries, especially as businesses from the United Kingdom are now involved in developing Malaysia’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) 3 project which includes supplies of railway signalling equipment, power supply systems and rolling stocks.
