JAKARTA— Two earthquakes hit North Halmahera District in North Maluku Province, Indonesia in a span of an hour on Monday morning.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the first earthquake, at a magnitude of 5.2, hit Halmahera at 4.27am Western Indonesian time at a depth of 10 km, followed by a magnitude of 5.5 quake 32 minutes later.

Tobelo and other areas, including Sofifi and Galela felt the tremors.

There was no risk of a tsunami nor immediate reports of any loss of life or property, according to the agency.

Halmahera, the largest island in the Maluku Islands, is nearly 405 km from Manado, North Sulawesi.
