Meanwhile, Utusan Malaysia photographer Muhamad Nazreen Syah Musthafa, 35, said the organisation of such competitions was welcome, as they strengthened the friendship among media practitioners.

New Straits Times reporter Mikail Ong, 42, said he and his friends had come all the way from Penang just to celebrate HAWANA 2023.

"We came from Penang to liven up the atmosphere and to get to know the media practitioners here. We are all very happy to be able to celebrate HAWANA together this year, HAWANA is fabulous," he said.

For Borneo Post news reporter Ronnie Teo Teck Wei, 36, the programme held in conjunction with HAWANA was a very good opportunity for him to socialise and get to know media practitioners from Peninsular Malaysia.

"For a while, we always felt that we were quite separated from all the things happening over in the Peninsula. So to get a chance to get together is very good," he said.
