OVERVIEW: Since 26 Dec 2022 – 1 Jan 2023, disasters were reported in Central Java Provinces, Indonesia, particularly in Kendal (26 and 31 Dec 2022), Grobogan (27 and 31 Dec 2022), Jepara (29 and 30 Dec 2022), Pati (31 Dec 2022), Pekalongan (31 Dec 2022), Demak (31 Dec 2022), Semarang City (31 Dec 2022), Kudus (31 Dec 2022), and Pekalongan City (1 Jan 2023). Moderate to prolonged heavy rainfall, strong wind, overflowing of the Rivers, and high tide have caused flooding, landslides, and strong wind in the province. as reported by Indonesia’s Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana (BNPB).
RESPONSE: Necessary actions to address the needs of the affected communities as well as the situation (coordination, evacuation, rapid assessments, etc.) have been carried out by responsible agencies and authorities. This disaster events are within the capacity of BNPB and the local disaster management authorities.
URGENT NEEDS: reports from BNPB and BPBD details urgent needs as follows: logistics, ready-to-eat- food, clothes, toiletries in Kendal Regency; logistics, ready-to-eat food, public kitchen, blankets and mats, cleaning equipment’s, and clothes in Demak Regency; and cleaning equipment, vehicles to distribute logistics material, temporary embankment, and public kitchen in Semarang City.
ANTICIPATED RISK: According to the BMKG Impact-Based Forecast, flooding, flash floods, and rain- induced landslides warning has been release for several cities/regencies in Central Java, particularly in Wonogiri, Karanganyar, Sukoharjo, Purworejo, Brebes, Tegal, Kebumen, and Jepara for Yellow Alert (high probability with low impact, and very low to low probability with moderate impact) on 3-4 Jan 2023; and Kebumen and Cilacap for Orange Alert (moderate probability with moderate impact) and Banyumas, Brebes, Jepara, Temanggung, Wadung Kedungombo, Pekalongan, Purworejo, Tegal, Kendal, Sragen, Purbalingga, and Batang for Yellow Alert (very low to low probability with moderate impact) on 4-5 Jan 2023.
