5.3-Magnitude Quake Struck Western Indonesia

JAKARTA, An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3, rocked off Indonesia’s western province of Bengkulu this morning, the country’s meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.

The quake occured at 05:41 a.m. local time, with its epicentre located at 55 km south-west of Kaur district, and a depth of 18 km under the seabed, the agency reported.

The quake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami, it added.
