Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will visit Spain, Italy and the Vatican City from 15 to 19 December 2019.
Minister Balakrishnan will be in Madrid, Spain, from 15 to 16 December to attend the 14th Asia-Europe Meeting Foreign Ministers' Meeting (ASEM FMM14). The Ministers will discuss cooperation in developing sustainable connectivity, tackling climate change, and also ways to strengthen international commitment to multilateralism. Minister Balakrishnan will deliver remarks at the ASEM FMM14 Opening Ceremony with King Felipe VI of Spain and speak at a press conference alongside representatives of the EU, Finland and Russia in his capacity as regional coordinator for ASEAN. He will also meet his counterparts on the sidelines of the ASEM FMM14.
Minister Balakrishnan will make bilateral visits to Rome, Italy and the Vatican City from 17 to 19 December. In Rome, Minister Balakrishnan will meet his Italian counterpart Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, and deliver a speech at the ASEAN-Italy Association. In the Vatican City, Minister Balakrishnan will have meetings with officials from the Holy See. Minister Balakrishnan will also host a reception for the Singaporean community in Italy and the Vatican City on 18 December.
Minister Balakrishnan will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
