The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd), will hold the 24th BSP-DepEd Annual Oratorical Contest on 29 October 2019, 1:00 p.m., at the BSP Assembly Hall. The contest will also serve as the culminating event for the 30th National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration.
Since 1996, the oratorical contest has been an effective platform in instilling awareness and appreciation of the importance of statistics to the different sectors of society, as well as in enjoining the public to support activities and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of statistics in the country.
In this year's event, sixteen 10th grade students, representing the 16 divisions in the National Capital Region (NCR), will compete in the oratorical contest finals. Their oratorical pieces, which are to be delivered in English, will highlight the importance of the innovative use of statistics in advancing the country's development agenda, in line with this year's theme, Data Innovation: Key to a Better Nation.
The first place winner of the oratorical contest will receive a cash prize of P25,000, while the second and third place winners will be given P20,000 and P15,000, respectively. Trainers of these three (3) winners will also be given cash awards. In addition, the three (3) winners and their schools will be awarded trophies, which are designed by notable currency and medallic illustrator of the BSP, Mr. Rymer Gengoni. Plaques of appreciation will also be given to the rest of the finalists and their trainers.
